Hawaii's Smoke-Free Ordinance

The Hawaii State Legislature recently passed the “Healthy Air & Workplaces Law” – a smoke-free ordinance implemented to protect the health and wellbeing of people from the risks of secondhand smoke.  This law which goes into effect on November 16, 2006, prohibits smoking in places open to the public and places of employment and requires clear designation of areas where smoking is permitted.

In recognition of the growing preference for non-smoking accommodations by our guests and in accordance with this new law, Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Hawaii has designated areas where smoking will be permitted on hotel property. All rooms at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa are designated as "non-smoking." The hotels will assess cleaning fees to guests who smoke in a designated non-smoking room.

Questions or concerns about this law may be directed to the Department of Health at (808) 586-4613.  Additional information may be found at www.hawaiismokefree.com. Mahalo.
